Our Second Komen Walk!

Today the kiddos and I walked in the Komen Walk/Run.  We only attempted the 1 mile non-competitive walk - maybe one of these years I'll do the 5k... So many creative shirts throughout the day to bring about breast cancer awareness - here are a couple that made me chuckle: "Big or Small, We Love Them All." "Save Second Base." Once again, it was a morning filled with energy and emotion.  To walk beside someone and see that they had a "Survivor" shirt on made me wonder how their journey through cancer had been, and I was able to silently rejoice with God's healing of their body.  Catching glimpses of signs pinned on people's shirts that said "In Memory Of" a wife, friend, aunt, mother, etc made me feel the sting of death as I am saddened by the loss that they have experienced.

Walking for a friend.

Last year Micah and I (and Joy, in utero) :-) participated in our first Komen Walk for the Cure.  Leading up to the event, I was able to reflect on how breast cancer has affected people I have known throughout my life.  I have a praise report about Scotty's cousin Melissa: she is cancer-free!!  Thank you, Lord!  I also have a prayer request for my friend from Bible Study, Ellen.  She is still battling cancer.

This year I walk for her.

If you want to donate, here's the really long link to my page :-) http://www.info-komen.org/site/TR/RacefortheCure/GRR_WestMichiganAffiliate?px=9089482&pg=personal&fr_id=2147

Good little tid-bit to know where the donations go:
-A minimum of 25% of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs, which fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.
-Up to 75% of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

A quick catch-all post...

Wow, hard to believe 3 whole weeks have gone by since I last published a post...these weeks have been full! Self-employment, an unexpected trip to California, Micah's birthday, starting a new year of Bible Study Fellowship, gearing up for our church's girls club which will begin soon, just to name a few. Though each event deserves it's own post, I wanted to at least get a few pics out there before another week went by!

BraveBit App Studio: Scotty has dreamed of being self-employed for years, but the time has never been quite right. Now is such a time, and God has been so kind in leading the way. Check out our company website: www.BraveBit.com.

California: A family emergency brought us to California earlier this month. Though the circumstances weren't ideal, we still were so glad to be there and spend time with my family - half of whom had never met Joy! The 4 cousins absolutely had a blast together...

Micah's Birthday: He is growing like a weed and smarter than ever. We were able to celebrate his special day more than once - with Scotty's family here, and when we were in California.
