Rachel's over a month into recovery! Here's an update I've been meaning to post for -gulp- 2 weeks! Sorry so late. :-)

Hey friends!
Today
is exactly 5 weeks since I had surgery and I can tell you I am SO glad I
did it! These past 5 weeks have been, overall, the best I've had in
years. I've definitely had surgery pain, but my overall feeling of
wellness is better, and THE pain seems to be disappearing (the doc said
it would take a few months for THAT pain to go away completely - still
healing!). Thank you again for all you did to get me to the doctor!
What an unbelievably fantastic summer it was with all of you. :)
My
incisions have healed nicely, but I can tell my insides are still
healing. I pushed myself too hard this week and have definitely felt
it. It's really mentally difficult to wrap my head around the time
frame it takes to heal; so much of me feels like I should just be better
already. But those who have walked the surgery road before me say that
it can take up to 6 months before I feel completely normal again. So!
February it is then. :)
My biggest decision to
make right now is when to go back to work. I'm most likely not going to
be working for my father anymore and have been looking into tutoring (I
have a degree in linguistics and am certified to teach ESL). Honestly?
I'm nervous. Up until last week I had done almost nothing but sit
around and read books and wear my pajamas and not shower. Then this
past week I have been doing a lot a lot a lot and now I'm all kinda
wobbly inside again, like the first week post-surgey. So I'm nervous
about taking on a job, not at all sure that I am physically up to it
yet. This is where I would ask for prayer - for wisdom in when to go
job-hunting again.
My time with the Lord these
past 5 weeks has been fantastic. Well...the first two weeks weren't. I
was still wrestling with the discipline of rest at that point, but bit by bit Jesus slipped me in to a rhythm of being rather than doing,
and this time has really revitalized my connection to Him. I feel I've
been walking in greater awareness of His presence than I have in a long
time. How glorious it has been.
As you know
from experience I could go on and on typing, so I'll restrain myself and
end the email here. I would love to hear back from you and hear how
your summers were and what your Fall is shaping up to be. Blessings to
all!
