A boy's best friend.

Micah loves dogs, or I should say "puppies" as he calls them (whether they're small or large...or even the squirrel he saw last week). Needless to say, he really enjoyed my doggy duties this week while taking care of Rex. I will have to say it warmed this mommy's heart to watch him enjoy the great outdoors with this friendly canine during the week. :-)

Tax Day TEA party.

Scotty and I took Micah to his first rally last Wednesday - the Grand Rapids TEA (Taxed Enough Already) party. It was fun...and inspiring. :-)

Total turn out was about 2,000

Protest took place in front of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum

This fact still shocks me, and bothers me

Micah wearing a sticker with the following statements:
Common Sense
1. To preserve the economic future for our children.
2. To work for a return to the principles of our governing constitution.
3. To demand limited government.
4. To promote the free market that made our country the leader of the world.
5. To give support for individual property rights.
6. To provide a platform for giving like minded people a voice.

I was displeased to find out that much of the mainstream media presented protesters as angry, silly, purely right-wing conservatives, fueled by Fox news, and many other false assumptions. No, we're just people who are taking a stand against out of control government spending. Here's a statement about the TEA parties that I can agree with: http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/24073/

Rex

I am currently dog-sitting for a neighbor down the street. The pooch's name is Rex, and he is an adorable 8-month old Beagle. He absolutely LOVES people, and whimpers EVERY time I leave him (we meet up and part ways 6 times a day, and the only time he hasn't whined is if he's busy eating).

He's been having some accidents. I don't know if it's because he can't hold it, or if he's rebelling because his "people" are gone. Either way, I've gotten real good at seeing the poo pile or pee puddle and 409-ing it with some paper towels. But today, I missed a pile, and I was not the one to first find it...

It was about 10:00 a.m. and Rex and I had said good-bye to each other just 2 hours prior. I had Micah in tow, and I got to cleaning up Rex's breakfast dishes while Micah watched the "puppy" out back. All of a sudden Micah started acting very concerned, may've have even declared an "uh-oh" or two, and kinda started panicking behind the dining room table. I came to his aid, and found his little brown shoe even browner. Now, he hadn't merely bumped into the poo pile, but from the looks of it, he had deliberately stepped directly on top of it and was pushing his little shoe deeper still into the muck. Gross.

I popped his little foot out of the mess and let him walk around with one shoe off and one shoe on while I decided what to do next - do I actually salvage the little loafer that has poo in every single groove on the bottom, or do I chuck it? (I had just bought these shoes a few weeks ago)! Whatever I decided, I knew Micah was going to have to travel in socks the rest of the day, because these were currently his only pair of shoes!!

I stomached the clean-up of both the floor and the shoe (I wore a plastic glove while de-pooing the shoe grooves), said my good-byes to Rex, and hopped in the car while I used (800)GOOG-411 and declared "Shoe Store" (a GREAT and free service offered by Google). It connected me to a Payless Shoe Source, and then Micah and I were off on a mission - new sneakers!

Micah entered the store in only socks, and exited the store wearing some brand new shoes (mommy also got a super cute pair for only $4 - there was a really good sale going on)!

I am still dog-sitting Rex for about 5 more days. Oh what adventures lie ahead?

Ruth Family Bloopers Journal

One of my friends keeps a family bloopers journal. She has it tucked away in a kitchen cabinet, accessible anytime she needs to write down a new funny story about her, her husband, or 4 children. She jots down the story and the date, then tucks it away again. I was over there a while back and she read through some of the entries (no more than a 3-4 line story) and laughed with her and some of her children as they also listened to some old family tales. I thought I'd like to do the same, so that Scotty, Micah and I can keep track of our goofiness, and come back to it when we need a good laugh or simply to reminisce. Here are my first two entries (I was kind of long-winded, so these were definitely longer than a 3-4 line story, and I couldn't remember the exact date)...

February 2009
Poor Micah was pretty sick - running a steady fever and battling an ear infection. A couple hours after he had went down for the night he woke up fussy. Mom (and soon dad too) came to his aid and found him half asleep and cranky (and really hot to the touch). Bekah asked Micah, "Do you want some water?" Micah, in a drunk-like fashion, stated, "Wawa, wawa, wawa" and let himself drink deeply form the sippy cup before him. With each break in gulping he would state, "Wawa" and then go back to drinking. After no longer being parched, he was laid back in bed and fell asleep in moments. He had honestly seemed like a drunken sailor, desperate for any form of liquid.

March 2009
One night Bekah woke up to Scott fidgeting. Bekah asked him, "What are you doing?" He responded, "I didn't know you were awake...I didn't know I was awake...I'm pickin' my nose!" They both fell asleep again shortly thereafter.

"The Bekah Day"

This was a birthday note from a friend, had to pass it along, because it's too dang creative to keep to myself. Thanks Luke Man. :-)

__________________________________________________________

"Grand Rapids, MI-- There have been reports of rejoicing from across the nation today with the celebration of The Bekah Day. Historians say the day began near Los Angeles on April 8, 1984, when a girl was born that was said to be "the best". Apparently, at some point the girl's given name, Rebekah, was shortened to encourage maximum "the bestness". Historians have accumulated many myths as to just how "The" was added to Bekah, but it's safe to say, it was inevitable. A popular story suggests that a twitterpated college student with two first names may have coined the phrase in an attempt to woo the woman while she studied in Chicago.

Popular activities on The Bekah Day often include eating at restaurants, gift giving, and talking in sometimes odd, childlike voices.

A very merry The Bekah Day to all."

"GuGu" in MI

My sister Rachel (or "Gugu" as her nieces and nephew call her) is in town right now, and has been for a whole week (hence my negligence of blogging)...but of course, we didn't get around to taking any good pictures until today, the day before she leaves! These are for grandma Sovilla in Cali. :-)
