Father's Day...

To all you dad's out there - Happy (belated) Father's Day!

For Father's Day, we enjoyed resting up after rolling into town around 1 a.m. from NE the night before.  After some unpacking and lounging around, we went to the Grand Traverse Pie Company so Scotty could get his free slice of pie (they do that for dads on Father's Day and moms on Mother's Day).  I don't really have any new and noteworthy things to report, just some cute photos to post. :-)

Windmill show and other sights...

Earlier this month we drove to NE for a family reunion.  It was a loooong drive there and back, but the kids did great!!  Micah had some new travel toys, Joy had a fully stocked diaper bag, and Scotty and I passed the time listening to The Silver Chair and The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis on CD.  Here's just a quick sampling of some of the sights we saw and things we did.

During the drive, we would occasionally see a windmill.  At one point, there were a ton of them and when Micah saw them he excitedly declared that it was a "windmill show."

My in-laws were super nice and put us up in a nice hotel.  We enjoyed THE BEST complimentary breakfast every morning, a quick dip in the swimming pool, and here's Joy showing off her baby skills in the hotel mirror - standing with mommy's help!

On Thursday afternoon we went to the Strategic Air and Space Museum which had the coolest selection of retired aircrafts, some of which were absolutely massive!

Though Friday was officially "reunion" day, most everyone got together to get the fun started on Thursday night for bowling.  Micah's first time, and he loved it!

This is a picture of grandpa and grandma with just the grandkids and spouses.  The family has grown past 100+ people already!

Here were some additional "cool" sightings while we drove...

The Blue Angels flew right over us when we were driving through Iowa.

We were stuck in some Chicago traffic next to Carl Edwards Nascar car for awhile.

The trip was a nice little vacation where we enjoyed family, made new memories, talked and laughed, and of course ate lots of good food!  I'm so thankful for the family God allowed me to marry into. ;-)

Play Dates

We have been having lots of fun getting together with friends recently...

We have friends in the neighborhood who we enjoy getting together with to play at the park, in each others backyards or at the local library.

Over the past year and a half I've reconnected with a college friend who has a 1-year old daughter.

We have some friends who just moved out of the neighborhood, but come back to visit or to play at the park.

We visited with my sister-in-law's sister-in-law (there's a mouthful for ya), whose son was born 3 days after Joy!

And of course, there are the two siblings who have "play dates" every day!!

Splash Pad

Two summers ago I took Micah to a splash pad at a local park.  He pretty much just hung around the perimeter, got his toes wet, and watched the other kids having fun.  Well, the park in our neighborhood just opened a splash pad, so on one of our super hot days this week, the kiddos and I trekked on over.  Micah got more than just his toes wet this time around - I think we have a new activity for this summer!

Micah explaining how the "red water thing fills up and then goes woosh" (water dumps out)

Quick break from water play!

 Micah's friend Caleb showed up!

Meeting an author

Yesterday Micah, Joy and I headed to a bookstore to meet Mike Berenstain, the co-author of the more recent Berenstain Bears books. I told Scotty that morning that I was giddy...silly me, I think I was going to the book signing more for me than for Micah. I mean, I grew up with the Berenstain Bears! (Who didn't)?

As I was thinking about authors, it made me think what it will be like to meet the authors of the Bible when we're in Heaven together...chatting with Moses about the first 5 books of the Bible, or Paul and all the letters he wrote to churches. I know these men really "co-authored" :-) God's word by His Holy Spirit;* the ultimate will be meeting the "Author" of my faith, Jesus!** It's great to know Him now through prayer and His Word, but to meet Him in person will be incredible.

*2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 3:16-17
**Hebrews 12:2
